  • Responsibilities

    Responsible for activities related to the daily operation of Strattec’s Plating Department and perform day to day chemical analysis of plating chemistry, including management of waste water.

     

    • Assist in the development and implementation of activities in the Plating Department to meet safety, efficiency and production goals while delivering on quality, and cost objectives.
    • Provides input to Expense and Capital budgets.
    • Conduct research to develop new and improved chemical manufacturing processes.
    • Prepare test solutions, compounds, and reagents to conduct testing.
    • Analyze organic and inorganic compounds to determine chemical and physical properties, composition, structure, relationships, and reactions, utilizing chromatography, spectroscopy, spectrophotometry along with other applicable technologies and techniques.
    • Develop, improve, and customize formulas, processes, and analytical methods.
    • Compile and analyze test information to determine process or equipment operating efficiency and to diagnose malfunctions.
    • Coordinate test procedures for analyzing components and physical properties of materials.
    • Induce changes in composition of substances by introducing heat, light, energy, and chemical catalysts for quantitative and qualitative analysis.
    • Prepare standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests.
    • Responsible for calibrating, regulating, maintaining machines, devices, and equipment that operate on the basis of electrical or electronic principles in support of plating operations.
    • Responsible for inspecting equipment, structures, and materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects
    • Write technical reports, spread sheets, and obtain samples from various plating baths.
    • Create and maintain IATF documentation such as… Control plans, work instructions and procedures for the plating department.
    • Report data analysis to plating lead person for chemical additions in order to maintain quality standards.
    • Performs tests and takes measurements throughout stages of production to determine degree of control over variables such as temperature, density, specific gravity, and pressure.
    • Troubleshoot plating issues
    • Schedule cleanouts, repairs, etc.
    • Evaluate new/alternate chemicals
    • Identification and characterization of waste water discharge
    • Work with local POTW to schedule discharge, sampling, and inspections
    • Review wastewater inspection reports and analysis reports for discrepancies
    • Review all Chemical Lab analytical reports including, Plating tank analyses, Salt spray analyses, Certificates of Conformance, etc.
    • Troubleshoot lab analyses problems
    • Assist with management of contractors/vendors
    • Lead/participate in both internal and external quality/environmental audits

     

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience in plating processes required.
    • 5 or more years of plating experience in the automotive or related industry preferred.
    • Work experience in a complex high volume manufacturing work environment.
    • Experience with ISO 9001 & 14001 Quality Management Systems.
    • IATF documentation including APQP, standard work instructions and control plans.
    • Must be able to anticipate potential problems, both internal and external, to the specific department(s) being supervised.
    • Must possess the ability to give clear direction to others.
    • Must also be familiar with H-Gold and ENEPIG.
    • Must be able to run TOC and X-ray Fluorescence machines.
    • Must be able to perform TOC’s, titrations, and pH checks.
    • Must be able to multi-task, plan and organize work.
    • Must be able to work in a cross functional team and effectively communicate ideas.
    • Must be self-sufficient and be able to work effectively with minimal supervision
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
    • Experience with MS Office applications required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
