Responsible for managing all components for new and current projects for the Driver Controls Product Team. Makes use of complex procurement methods requiring a great degree of knowledge, professionalism and administration. At this level, is proficient in all aspects of purchasing. Conducts value analysis in order to develop alternative sources resulting in lower cost items while maintaining quality service and price. Works closely with engineering, production planning, financial and other key personnel to ensure that requirements to support corporate objectives are adhered to by suppliers. Participates in various project efforts. Solves recurring supplier/technical quality and delivery problems. Develops an effective, professional business relationship with suppliers and treats all suppliers fairly and equitable and conducts business ethically. Works on finding new sources for current products and assisting in the development of new products that increase our offerings to our customers.


  • Review requests for quotations for accuracy and completeness and forward to suppliers. Once quotes are received, summarize the quotes in a spreadsheet and review the summary with Program Managers and Engineers. Arrange and coordinate technical reviews with potential suppliers to ensure that the print requirements are understood by the supplier. Negotiate the pricing with the lead supplier and select the supplier.
  • Understands market value of components and negotiates with suppliers.
  • Lead supplier communication to ensure all program related deliverables and expectations are met.
  • Track supplier program related timing progress to ensure that project timing commitments are met.
  • Track, expedite and ensure complete PPAP requirements are met for the projects.
  • Primary Program contact for Supplier Management.
  • Conduct program review meetings with suppliers and maintain open issues records and escalate issues effectively and in a timely manner to management as required.
  • Understand critical path for each program, assess associated risks and proactively alert Program Manager of potential issues to mitigate risks and ensure that effective plan exists to meet overall goals and objectives.
  • Travel domestically and internationally, as required up to 25%.
  • Development and maintenance of excellent supplier relations.
  • Negotiate contracts with strategic/key suppliers to cover needs of all relevant businesses/units.
  • Lead Supplier Sourcing Decision process in coordination with Supply Chain Sourcing Committee.
  • Anticipates and negotiates all price changes.
  • Investigates the possibility of improving quality without price increase or substituting a lower cost item.
  • Consolidation of suppliers and negotiation with them to obtain annual cost reduction.
  • Performs the administration of long-term agreements and purchases items at the lowest price consistent with desired quality to meet specific requirement date.
  • Develops contracts, blanket orders and spot-buy orders.
  • Participate in finding, selecting and approving preferred suppliers in accordance with pre-determined criteria, manage suppliers panel.
  • Ensure effective contract set-up and management follow up activities are in place.
  • Ensure compliance with negotiated agreements and volumes
  • Work with suppliers on negotiating payment terms and FOB terms.
  • Makes plant visits to supplier production facility whenever situation warrants. Provides assistance to suppliers as required to achieve objectives.
  • Works with the assigned product teams to understand their business needs. Attend regular weekly team meetings.
  • Set up meetings between engineers and supplier technical staff to develop new technology.
  • Purchase project-level design work from supplier in support of STRATTEC engineering development of new products.
  • Assure that standard practices are adhered to regarding Non-disclosure agreements.
  • Work with potential new suppliers as they develop new technology.
  • Ability to carry out research activities in a variety of commodities and value stream analysis in order to develop International sources in all of VAST Alliance locations, resulting in lower cost items while maintaining quality service and price. Work closely with VAST Alliance Purchasing Team Members.
  • Work with customer business teams to develop procurement strategy in support of each customer’s global sourcing expectation specific to program award.
  • Help Materials Team with delivery of orders.
  • Negotiate claim settlements.
  • Processes invoice approvals in a timely fashion.




Must be highly organized and possess good leadership/facilitation skills.
Must have excellent communication skills. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Able to understand and read technical blue prints.



Minimum BS in Business or Engineering with 5 years experience in purchasing
Automotive experience preferred.
