Responsibilities

STRATTEC SECURITY is committed to providing meaningful Internship educational opportunities to design/engineering students.  These opportunities provide selected students in-depth learning experiences which apply academic concepts and ideas.  Students are exposed to the real working world while learning from experienced professionals active in their fields.

 

As an Automotive Mechanism Design Intern you will interface with team members and perform duties in the following areas:

 

Product Design

  • With direction from Product Engineers or other Design team members creates and modifies assembly and component models as part of the product design process.
  • Creates and modifies models and drawings per SSC standards and customer requirements.
  • Operates a CAD terminal to produce models and detailed drawings of a wide range of parts and assemblies.
  • Processes changes and associated change documentation on existing product.
  • Assists Product Engineer or other Design team members in design analysis.
  • Supports Product Engineers in preparing layouts and other engineering documents for design reviews
  • Participates in design review meetings.
  • Participates in problem solving and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Design for manufacturability suitable to part production process (assembly, metal stampings, plastic injection molding)
  • Work concurrently with tool design group and/or purchase part vendors as required during part design process to insure manufacturability
  • Performs and assists Product Engineering with stack-ups as required.
  • Other design support tasks may be assigned.

 

 Product Engineering

  • Support engineering prototype builds under the direction of Product Engineers.
  • Document the processes used for prototype builds to ensure consistent process for builds.
  • Interface with manufacturing team members based in our Mexico facility as appropriate.
  • Support engineering in the development and execution of prototype control plans.
  • Receive, inventory and track prototype material.
  • Inspect prototype material as necessary.
  • Operate machinery needed to build prototype assemblies.
  • Design and assemble fixtures as needed for assembly of prototypes.
  • Packaging and shipping of prototype assemblies as needed.
  • Other Engineering support tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

 

  • Qualified, actively enrolled, and in good standing in a product design/drafting or engineering associates degree program.
  • Have completed or is current enrolled in relevant course work related to product design (plastic, stamping product design, etc.)
  • Have completed or is current enrolled in relevant course work related to detailing and dimensioning of component and assembly drawings.
  • Understanding of GD&T desirable.
  • Students will conduct themselves in a professional manner and follow all STRATTEC SECURITY salaried associates work rules.
  • Students able to work at least 20 hours per week during their internship. Preferred that they could work more during summer break.
  • Must be able to use Catia. NX & Pro-E desirable.
  • Desirable that the candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude and is familiar with the use of hand tools.
  • Able to lift and carry 20 lbs.
  • Each student will present a summary of their experiences to the organization at the end of each term.
