STRATTEC Security Corporation is a world-leader in designing and manufacturing vehicle access systems (keys, key fobs, push-to-start and passive entry systems, power lift gates, power sliding doors, steering column locks) and we supply to all of the major automakers. 


The Manufacturing Engineering Manager leads a team of engineers responsible for interfacing with product design, selecting the most appropriate manufacturing process, building tooling on-time and on-budget (utilizing STRATTEC’s in-house tool build capabilities), sampling product and establishing manufacturing parameters to meet all required component specifications.  Our Milwaukee operations consist of die casting, metal stamping and multiple plating lines.  This position reports to the Director of Milwaukee Operations and interfaces directly with STRATTEC Executive Leadership on a regular basis.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Ensure new tool builds are on-time and within budget (the Tooling Manager is a direct report) and present program status on a monthly basis
  • Interface with program teams and product designers to select manufacturing processes and value streams best suited for the particular component
  • Manages component and manufacturing process engineers responsible for process selection, component builds and establishing manufacturing parameters
  • Evaluates design for manufacturability and provides feedback and recommendation to product design teams to ensure processes can adhere to strict automotive quality requirements
  • Evaluates capacity and manufacturing requirements and completes annual capital expenditure budgeting
  • Responsible for purchasing, install and run-off of all new manufacturing and processing equipment including plating lines, die casting machines, stamping machines and other custom equipment
  • Participate in VA/VE activities to optimize current processes and reduce scrap and cost
  • Communicate clear expectations and KPIs for department and establish action plans for each position to ensure all requirements are met. Present KPIs to management on weekly and monthly basis
  • Responsible for coaching and developing leadership team to ensure all team members have necessary technical and leadership training to accomplish and exceed goals
  • Problem solving tools will need to be utilized to troubleshoot challenging situations that arise from a complex working environment
  • Positive communication and attitudes are vital for success. Providing employees with feedback and direction will be required to achieve goals.  If there are questions or doubts about direction or methodologies set by management it is vital to address these with upper management to avoid a negative working environment.



  • Follow all processes related to quality certifications (ISO, TS)
  • Expand and improve on documentation and training to ensure employees fully understand objectives and have the skillset to meet quality and production requirements
  • Be prepared to participate in customer and quality audits where required
  • Establish a quality-first culture. Manufacturing of non-conforming goods cannot be accepted



Leadership / Continuous Improvement

  • Participation in Kaizen events, lean workshops and 5s activities will be required to meet cost reduction goals
  • Managers must be responsible for identifying and implementing cost savings projects throughout the year
  • Cost reduction KPIs must be implemented and tracked. Presentations to management on cost reduction results will be required monthly



The Engineering Manager has 7 direct reports including the Tooling Manager, component engineers and process engineer.  This position serves as a leader and a mentor to those positions, and sets an example for all STRATTEC Team members.




QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited 4-year university
  • 5-10 years of experience in a highly technical manufacturing environment (automotive experience strongly preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years management experience with direct reports
  • Familiarity with adhering and maintaining quality systems (TS experience preferred)
  • Some familiarity with CAD and 3D modeling software
  • Experience with problem solving tools (8-D, 5-Why, Red-X)
  • Experience leading Kaizen and 5s implementations
