    IT Programming Intern




    The IT Programming intern will assist in running daily reports and queries, managing back-ups and tapes, creating user profiles, programming modifications to existing programs, and monitoring our helpdesk system.

    • STRATTEC is looking for an AS400 Programming Intern to evaluate business requirements, and transition existing RPG code on the AS/400 system. This position will have the opportunity to gain experience while learning on the job.
    • Main duties for this position will include:
    •    First level general Helpdesk support for End-Users focusing on proper operation of AS400 / iSeries business systems.
    •    An opportunity to do programming as needed.
    •    Communicate and assist internal customers with user hardware support for workstation, printer, and barcode scanning.
    •    Assist with backup and archive operations using BRMS – Back-up recovery and media services.
    •    Ensure documentation standards are created and adhered to.
    •    Participate in projects and testing as required
    •    Research, troubleshoot, and resolve issues reported via Helpdesk
    •    Additional duties may include participating in special projects and testing new software and systems to find the best fit for STRATTEC.




    -At minimum, a High School diploma and in the process of obtaining a four year bachelor’s degree, from a College or technical school in Engineering, Information Technology or Computer Science.


    -This is a year round internship and the right candidate must be available to work at least 15 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week during the summer break.



    • Programming RPG, CL, LE, using Rational and STRPDM programming software.
    • Preferred programming experience with RPG on the AS/400 to support development.
    • Query AS400 Table Driven Query, SQL
    • Novice computer skills with a minimum of “basic-to-moderate” skills in the operation of computer hardware and software; including but not limited to MS-Office, Internet Explorer/Chrome/FireFox, e-mail, and more.
    • Primary operating system knowledge of Windows is required. 
    • Preferred conceptual understanding of basic networking and network protocols such as TCP/IP, RDP, TELNET, FTP
    • Conceptual understanding of basic wired and wireless networking
    • Aptitude for learning quickly and a strong desire to become a computer support expert
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills a must
    • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to adapt quickly to change and needs of customers.
