Responsibilities

JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

  • Develops/defines product-design engineering concepts and determines product design direction using 3D CAD tools and/or simulation software
  • Reads and understands Customer Specifications (quality, product, program level) such as CTS, SOW, SOR and initiates/completes/negotiate product designs/CAD concepts to fulfill those specification requirements
  • Ensure program PDP documents are completed and maintained current/updated in VKMS (VAST/STRATTEC knowledge Management system)
  • Investigates (and if applicable validates) new technologies and/or manufacturing processes that provide benefits and/or competitive advantage to STRATTEC products
  • Conducts Benchmarking process (analysis, inspection, testing, teardown, report completion) of competition, other industry related and STRATTEC own products
  • Learns Patent search, reading and manipulation process. Initiates/apply for Patents when approved/prompted
  • Understands Project Timing requirements/deliverables ownership; and executes/completes tasks on time
  • Interprets Customer Specifications, and generates internal STRATTEC specifications for product or process (EPS)
  • With or some supervision, initiates and coordinates cost requests (RFQ’s)
  • Initiates/completes and maintains updated DFMEA’s
  • Coordinate/monitor design activities of assigned Design Engineers, and prioritizes as needed for timely completion
  • With or some supervision, coordinate/initiate/attend and execute proper Design Reviews with Customer and internally at STRATTEC per PDP process or as prompted
  • Monitors/coordinates outside services activities as needed/assigned (design, manufacturing, testing, laboratory, etc. services)
  • Initiate/coordinate PPO’s for EE, DV, PV and DOE builds at STRATTEC manufacturing plants for product development
  • Completes and determines product / and sub-components as applicable, Test Plans (ADVP&R’s) and Test Flows
  • Assists product development pre-production build events at manufacturing locations when prompted
  • Reviews STRATTEC own products and Suppliers Control Plans, DFMEA’s, PFMEA’s, Process Flows

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Learns simulation processes as applicable
  • Understands and adjusts/corrects as needed performed analysis, such as FEA’s, Moldflows, etc.
  • Performs/completes product dimensional management and stack-ups
  • Learns/utilize outside laboratory analysis methods (FTIR, microscopic, etc.)
  • Initiates/coordinates/implements STRATTEC ECN changes/releases.
  • Knowledgeable and efficient in the use of Problem Solving processes (DOE’s, Ishikawa, 5-Why’s, 8D’s, DMAIC, etc.)
  • Provides detailed and timely project/program status reports to supervisor/manager
  • Assists other STRATTEC product departments when prompted/required.
  • Perform continuous improvement activities and investigate/implement cost savings activities (VA/VE)
  • With supervision and STRATTEC Buyer, AQE and SQE assistance, works with STRATTEC suppliers during product development to define costs, DFM’s, tool design, manufacturing process, quality expectations, and pre-production delivery of components
  • Performs custom product builds at manufacturing or at product development site, using development tools and hands-on activities
  • Interprets, modifies and/or creates engineering drawings with advanced GD&T and Quality controls
  • Coordinates/implements customer product changes (WERS/EWO/CN) and respective STRATTEC ECN release

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

 

B.S. Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering plus 5+ years engineering experience, preferably in automotive.

English fluent, Spanish or German bi-lingual is a plus

Good communication skills

MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project) high proficiency

CREO experience, UGNX experience/knowledge is a plus

RedX or Green/Black Belt is a plus

Ability to travel 20-30% domestically and overseas as needed
